an update: lake tekapo
You know that feeling when winter seems to be dragging on and you aren’t motivated to do anything? That’s been us lately. The days are as short as ever and the mid-winter blues are settling in. We’ve also been in New Zealand for 3 months now (crazy) and starting to feel a little home-sick. Which makes getting out on the weekends even more critical. Winter can actually be an awesome time to explore, since the tourists are few and, hey, it’s a perfect time to get cosy and drink wine, am I right?
The weekend before last, we spent a night in Tekapo. We drove up first thing on Saturday morning and spent the night in a sweet Airbnb overlooking Lake Takapo. We spent most of the weekend driving around the lake, including checking out Lake Pukaki nearby and enjoying the hot springs. Unfortunately it was pretty cloudy in the evening, so we couldn’t do much stargazing, but we got lucky with amazing weather on Saturday. One of our highlights was going up to the Mt John Observatory and the cafe.
We have a busy few weeks ahead, with Emile’s work ramping up and a couple of trips we have planned. We booked a last-minute trip to Auckland next weekend, and then we’re going to Dunedin the following week. We’re definitely trying to make the most of our weekends at the moment, which I especially need, being cooped up at home most days working (even though ugg-boots are life).
I’ll be posting more updates soon! But right now, it’s Friday = wine time! Happy weekend!
