orange whisky sour

I finally got around to buying a cocktail shaker (I've actually never owned one)! I've been inspired by the art of cocktail-making, since visiting a few really classy cocktail or whisky bars of late. There is something especially elegant about enjoying a quality cocktail in a dark and quiet bar to end your evening out. I've had a few fantastic whisky sours over time, so I was eager to try it at home (and test out my new shaker), making date nights in that little bit more special.

This recipe is super easy. I find adding a touch of orange juice brings a nice sweetness to the drink without having to add too much sugar. Whisky sours are traditionally made with bourbon, but I've had a couple made with scotch or whisky. I didn't have any bourbon, so I used Chivas Regal Blended Scotch Whisky (12yo).

Ingredients

(serves 2)
Juice of 1 lemon
Juice of half an orange
1 tsp sugar
4-6 shots of whisky or bourbon (depends how strong you like it)
1 egg white
Ice cubes

Method

Add all the ingredients to your cocktail shaker and give it a good hard shake (hello arm muscles!) for about 30 seconds...and voila! Strain and pour into your favourite tumblers and garnish with lemon or orange. Using the rind could also make a nice touch. Enjoy!
