Annika Hofsink - Smell the Weekend

Hi, I’m Annika

Welcome to my blog, a corner where I photograph and write about the things I love. Taking you on our weekend adventures. Writing from Sydney, Australia.

our wedding

Emile and I devoted our lives to each other on 26 March 2016, and it was the most wonderful day of my life! We got engaged in July last year, and it's been a whirlwind since then. I had surgery on my ankle in November and then, before we knew it, our big day had arrived! I'll write more about my surgery later.

Here are a few of my favourite photos of the day. It was incredibly difficult to choose, because our photographers, Doxa Visual did an amazing job of capturing the day as a whole, and I could watch the slideshow of photos over and over again. Even the smallest of moments were captured, creating a sweet sequence of the day's happenings.

The morning was pretty cruisy for me, which I liked. I had a long sleep-in in the house by myself, ate breakfast (absolutely cannot remember what I ate), painted my nails and waited for my sisters, mum and grandmother to arrive. They ended up running late, so with them arrived my dad and my sister's boyfriend. It was all very festive, but the morning absolutely flew by! I did my own make-up, while everyone got into their dresses and suits. I think I was probably the calmest of everyone, other than my last-minute lipstick crisis (I couldn't choose a colour)! We had a quick cheers and sip of champagne, and then off we went!

We were meeting all the family at Fitzroy Gardens for photos beforehand. I didn't want our guests to wait around too long before the reception so we decided that the formal photos would be taken earlier. Obviously, Emile and I saw each other before the church service. The photographers made sure that our family was meeting elsewhere, while Emile and I had our 'first look' photos taken. We were both so nervous at this point, but it was lovely to have a moment of quiet time before all the hype and emotions happened.

The service was filled with lots of music and singing and a beautiful message on Ecclesiastes 4. Because it was Easter Weekend, I was just blown away by how many people came to the ceremony to show their support! Afterwards we all had some cake, tea and coffee at the church. This gave us the opportunity to mingle with people who weren't coming to the reception. After which, we hopped on the bus with all our guests to Home Hill Winery, our reception venue. We had about 55 of our friends and family joining us at our reception. The venue is just stunning, and is one of our personal favourite vineyards in Southern Tasmania.

Emile and I had a few more photos taken while our guests mingled with cheese and canapés. We joined everyone shortly after and then the evening began! My sister, Elize and my other's sister's (Heidi) boyfriend played some piano for us while guests were being seated. At this point I was so glad to be sitting down and enjoying a nice glass of Pinot Noir and just celebrating! We had some speeches and Emile's brother and brother-in law played a set of music for us. Emile also sang and played a beautiful song called 'Amazing Day' by Coldplay. With some dancing (and singing "Roar" at the top of our lungs) and just enjoying the company of our friends and family, the evening absolutely flew by, and I still have moments where I so badly want to go back in time and re-live the day. Emile and I especially felt this the following days after the wedding. We had plenty of time to reminisce while on honeymoon in Thailand, but I'm sure we'll always remember this amazing day.
